Mindy Minzhu Zhao
This is Minzhu (Mindy) Zhao, a first-year Computer Science Ph.D. student from Grouplens lab at the University of Minnesota. I am luckily advised by Prof. Lana Yarosh.
Prior to that, I studied MSc in Knowledge, Information and Data Science at the University College London, mentored by Professor Kaitlyn Regehr. I also undertook research on the intersection of social media and HCI guided by Professor Zhicong Lu from DEER Lab and Professor Yaxing Yao. Previously, I received my BA in Data and Media Communication from Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) in 2022. During my undergraduate study, I undertook research advised by Professor Yucheng Jin, Professor Liang Lan, and Professor Yunya Song.
🌟 Research Interests
My research interest lie at the intersection of Human-centered Interaction, Social Computing, and Health & Well-Being, particularly the ethical and empathetic technology for vulnerable groups. Currently, I am investigating technology for harm reduction. Additionally, I am interested in social media and online communities, particularly on online harmful content (e.g. misinformation, misogyny).
